Teaching aims
Learn famous Chinese festivals and western festivals and learn how to celebrate them.
Guess the meaning of the words according to the pictures.
Discuss favorite festivals.

Teaching procedure:
Step1 Free talk:Talk about the festivals
1.Show the students some objects and pictures, such as a mooncake, a red packet…
T: What’s this?
S: It’s a mooncake.
T: When do you eat mooncakes?
S: At Mid-Autumn Festival.
T: When is Mid-Autumn Festival?
S: On August 15th (lunar). (find the date from the calendar)
(T: When there is a festival in the calendar, we can see the Chinese characters. Read
‘festival’ after me, please.)
Ask information about other festivals like this.
Step2 Presentation
1. Show the pictures of Halloween, Mid-Autumn Festival, New Year’s Day, Christmas, Dragon
Boat Festival and Thanksgiving Day, let the student tell the name of these festivals.
2. Divide students in groups of four, discuss how to celebrate them , at the same time,
teach the new words.
3.Show the description of these festivals at the same time, let the students use the name
of these festivals to complete the sentences.
4.Let the students look at the six pictures and discuss:
Which is your favorite festival?
Why do you like it?
5.Discuss other festivals:
A: Which is your favorite festival?
B: My favorite festival is _____.
A: When is _______?
B: It is on __________.
A: What do you usually do aton ___?
B: I usually __________________.
A: Why do you like_____?

B: Because __________________.

Step3 Comprehension
1. Listen to the tape and answer these questions:
1)What festivals are Eddie and Hobo celebrating? Halloween
2)Are they happy? Yes, they are.
3)What is Hobo dressing up as? He is dressing up as a ghost.
4)What will he dress up then? He will dress up as Monkey King.
2. Students read it together.
3. Practice in pairs and act it in the front of the classroom.

I’m dressing up as a ghost.
dress v.给某人穿衣服, 其宾语往往是人。
e.g. I often dress my daughter in a red coat. 我常常给我女儿穿红外套。
dress up意为“装扮,打扮”,后常接介词 as,表示“装扮成……,打扮成……”。
e.g. He dresses up as a ghost at Halloween party.
在万圣节晚会上他装扮成一个幽灵。
辨析:
1) put on sth. 穿上衣服,强调“穿的动作” 。
e.g. It’s cold outside. Please put on your coat.
2) wear sth. 穿着衣服,表“穿着的状态”。
e.g. She is wearing a red T-shirt today.
3) try on sth. 试穿衣服
