Step 1 Countable and uncountable nouns
(1) Write the examples on the board:
abanana an apple a box
two bananas two apples two boxes
(2) Write the following on the board:
abag of milk a cup of tea a kilo of meat two bags
of milk two cups of tea two kilos of meat
(3) Say, Millie’s grandparents are coming for dinner
tonight. What are Millie and her mother going to buy?
(4) Check the answers.
Step 2 Using ‘there be
(1) Say the following sentences and write them on the
board:
There is a picture on the wall.
Ther e are two books on the desk.
Is there a pen on the desk? Yes/No, there
is/isn’t.
A re there many maps on the wall? Yes/No, there
are/aren’t.
(2) Explain to the students we use ‘there be’ to show
that something exists. We use ‘there is’ before a
singular noun or an uncountable noun. We use ‘there
are’ before a plural noun.

(4) Say, Look at the picture. What are Millie’s
family going to have for din ner?

Learn and master the vocabulary words.

Homework
(1) Memorize the vocabulary words.
