Unit6 Grammar—Countable nouns and Uncountable nouns
Teaching aims:
1. To understand the meaning and usage of countable and uncountable nouns
2. To master the plural of countable nouns.
Teaching steps:
Step 1 Free talk
1.What’s your favourite food?
2. Do you drink milk every day?
3. Do you have an apple every day?
4. What do you have for breakfast/ lunch/ supper?
5. How do you keep healthy?
Step2 Presentation
1.Show students some pictures and ask them to guess:
1) What does millie want to buy?
2) What does her mother want to buy?
2.Put the things into the correct categories in the table.
3.Use “a”or “an”before a singular countable noun.
Step 3 Practise
Step4 Presentation
1. To form the plural of the most countable nouns.
1) Most nouns +s
2) Nouns ending in a conaonant +y :-y+ies
3) Nouns ending in o: +sor +es
4) Nouns ending in f or fe: -f/fe+ves
5) Special plural for ms of some words
Step 4 Practice
1.Get Ss to give the plural of countable nouns.
2.Complete Millie and her mother’s shopping plan
Step 5 Presentation
Present the uncountable nouns like these:
A piece of bread/paper, a glass of milk/water, a kilo of beef/pork,
A packet of salt/sugar, a bottle of juice/water, a carton of …
Step 6 Practice
1.Complete mother’s shopping list
2. Get Ss to complete the conversation on page 74.
3.Check the answers in groups and read the dialogue togeter.

Write a passage about Millie’s birthday dinner
