Step 1. Presentation
Get students to do some exercise , then present new contents.
The boy plays with his cat after school
Tennis is Ken’s favorite sport .
The girl looks slim
An old man likes reading books. Reading is fun
I like going shopping
Remind them to look at the blackboard and pay attention to the words.
T: Pay attention to the vowels letters in these words. How to read them?
The sounds of the letters are different from the sounds of the letters
themselves. They are also different from the sounds in Unit1 and each
sounds short .
Present the five vowels.
Step 2 Practice
1. Encourage students to read the vowels and try to imitate the
pronunciation by the recording.
2. Help them to read the words in the table. And pay attention to the
vowels / e/ and /æ/
3. Encourage them to read the words in part A, then put them into
different groups. Ask some students to check their answers.
4. Show them a poem, and help them to read it together. For example:
What’s that sound in the middle of cat? /æ//æ//æ/that’s /æ/in the
middle
What’s that sound in the middle of cat? /æ//æ//æ/that’s /æ/in the
middle
What’s that sound in the middle of pen? / e// e// e/ that’s
/e/ in the middle
What’s that sound in the middle of rug? / ʌ// ʌ// ʌ/ that’s
/ ʌ/in the middle
What’s that sound in the middle of pig? /I //I//I/ that’s/I/ in the
middle
Step 3 Consolidation
Present the words by card, and encourage them to read the words. The
teacher can help them correct.
Maybe teacher can explain the words for some students.
Provide more word cards, and practice them more.
4. More words and senten ces for practice, for example:
make a cake apple black cat
a cute duck the big city
ride a bike me his name go home
lucky students a long nose
What a lovely face he makes|
I have a little robot and his name is Jack
A boy goes home. Let’s go back to the spaceship.
Step 4 Homework
Practice the vowels and complete the exercise on the workbook.
